Today I want to share with you guys one of my new favorite recipes for a ridiculously simple and healthy dessert. I’ve seen this on pinterest over and over again so I decided to test it out and give you some tips to make it even easier.

First off you’ll need:

1-2 whole ripe bananas (depending on how many you want to make)

A few spoonfuls of all natural peanut butter (JIF is my favorite!)

Chocolate chips (I prefer the dark chocolate from Enjoy Life brand, they are dairy, soy and nut free!)

Now here’s what to do:

Step 1: First slice up you bananas into little chips, be careful not to go too thin or else it won’t be able to support the peanut butter.

Step 2: Spread a little glob on peanut butter on the banana slice, and then put another banana on top to create a cute little sandwich.

Step 3: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, fill it with your bananas and pop it in the freezer for 30-45 minutes. This will solidify the sandwich bites a bit to make it easy to dunk in the chocolate.

Step 4: While your bites are in the freezer, it’s the perfect opportunity to melt the chocolate! The easiest way to do this is by dumping the chocolate chips into a heat proof bowl and putting it over a pot of steaming water. Be careful not to let any moisture come in contact with the chocolate or else it’ll seize up and become super clumpy.

Step 5: The fun part! Drizzle your chocolate over the tops of the bites with a spoon, or grab them with a fork and dunk them into the bowl of melted chocolate. You can do as much or as little chocolate as you like, this is totally up to you!

Step 6: On the parchment paper, place them in the refrigerator until the chocolate sets and become hardened.

And that’s it! Super easy and delicious banana bites!

Dear incoming freshmen,

It’s here. It’s finally here. College. If you’re anything like I was, your mind is saying “holy crap” over and over and over again. After surviving all of high school, and finally wearing the title of “senior” proudly, the label “freshmen” is really weird and maybe even scary to you. You’ve been on Tumblr and Pinterest, group messaging your new roommates and spending the past 3 months making sure your room will be not only super cute, but a perfect reflection of your style. Well times up, it’s move in day.

Don’t be nervous because move in day will always be a hectic and stressful day, and there’s really nothing you can do about it. So make sure you’ve slept well and just roll with the punches. You’ve gotten your key, your room is worthy of an Instagram pic and your parents have said their goodbyes.

Now what..

Leaving your family and high school friends behind can be hard. I mean, it’s all you’ve really had for the past 18 years. But I promise you, you will make new friends. Leave your door open while you set up and organize your new space. People from your floor are probably trying to say hi to all of their new neighbors, and an open door means the friends are more likely to come to you. If you’re the outgoing type, then go walk around! Introduce yourself, invite people over to your room. It’s painfully awkward at first, but remember.. EVERYONE is looking for new friends too, you’re not alone.

Put your phone down. Your best friend to-be could be right across from you in the dining hall, but you wouldn’t know that if your eyes are glued to Twitter. Your phone wants you to miss out on all of the wonderful opportunities that your first week of college has for you. This is a crucial time to be completely involved in meeting people, getting to know them and being social!

Although you will be meeting so many new people these first few weeks of school, know that some you’ll keep and others you won’t. I’m proud to say I’m still best friends with someone I made friends with my freshman year of college (4 years ago holy cow). Everyone is making friends left and right, but pay extra attention to the friends that you get along with best, people with the same values and interests as you. The friends that help quiz you for your Spanish midterm and actually answer the door when you get locked out at 2 AM are the ones you need to keep.

Don’t forget, it’s not all fun and games. Although I high recommend you go out on syllabus week and make new friends, you still probably have class at some point. Make friends that want to study together and go to the gym together. Get yourself organized and motivated. Schedule time for YOU to be with YOU. My biggest mistake in college was surrounding myself with people 24/7. Learn to be alone. It’ll help you decompress and get done what needs to be done.

So good luck class of 2019, do big things!

You’ve seen them on Pinterest and Instagram for the past year, I’m sure of it. Maybe you’ve even tried to master it yourself, but it never turns out right. The infamous “detox smoothie”. What does detoxing even mean? Am I going to sweat out all of the alcohol and pizza I’ve consumed the past month? Or even worse, I’m gonna pee every 30 minutes for the next 24 hours. I’ve done a little bit of research and I’m here to shed some light on what it means to detox, why it’s important and some tasty ways to do it!

By definition, to detox means to “abstain from or rid the body of toxic or unhealthy substances.” The most trendy way of doing that lately are juice cleanses, where you basically sip high calorie fruit/veggie/electrolyte juices instead of eating solid food for as long as 3 days. I’ve seen lots of information supporting the fact juice cleanses are not healthy for the average person, and your body will most likely be miserable because it’s not getting the protein it needs. Instead, the daily consumption of antioxidants are way more effective!

An antioxidant is a molecule that inhibits the oxidation, a process that creates free radicals, of other molecules. Free radicals are basically molecules with an unpaired electron that are HIGHLY unstable and can cause damage and deterioration of living healthy cells, creating a terrible chain reaction that can cause diseases like cancer or heart disease. Antioxidants basically donate an electron to stabilize and neutralize free radicals to prevent disease and tissue damage!

The most common antioxidants to get your hands on are vitamins C, E and A. Some tasty foods high in antioxidant levels are raspberries, strawberries, acai berries, cherries, lemon, blackberries, dark leafy greens, sweet potatoes and oranges!

My favorite way to get a little daily detox is by drinking lemon water! My entire last post was specifically on why I LOVE lemon water, so go check that out for a ton more details! IMG_6066

Another super easy way to pack your day with antioxidants is by blending them up into a smoothie! I like to drink mine for breakfast. My favorite smoothie combo is:

1 cup of mixed frozen berries (I like target’s antioxidant blend with strawberries, cherries, blueberries, raspberries and cherries)

1 whole banana

1/4 cup of almond or coconut milk

1 handful of baby spinach

1 scoop of Greek yogurt OR protein powder if I’m replacing a meal.

I PINKY PROMISE you can NOT taste the spinach, don’t let the greens scare you!!!

I used to never think twice about the lemon wedge they garnish your drink with at restaurants, until I kept hearing “lemon water is so good for you” everywhere. But WHY is it good for you? All of these people talking about lemon water being detoxifying but why is that good, and what else does it do? So I’m gonna lay down the facts real quick:

  • Bye-Bye Bloat | Lemons detoxify your digestive tract allowing for a healthier flow, which decreases bloat, and relieves heartburn and belching. If you’re bloated from a night of drinking, sip on some lemon water, not only to hydrate – duh, but to kick start your liver! It increases your enzyme function or something.
  • Youthful Skin | The detoxifying affects of lemons are not only good for your body, but also for your skin! High vitamin C content can increase elasticity in the skin (which prevents wrinkles), and well hydrated and detoxified skin is less likely to break out. Pro Tip: putting lemons directly on the skin can reduce the appearance of scars.
  • Revved Up | Drinking a glass of lemon water every morning can give you the same kick as a cup o’ joe, which out dehydrating you like coffee tends to do. Once lemon juice reaches the digestive tract, it releases a burst of energy without that 2 o’clock crash.

Seriously guys, Google the benefits of lemon water!!

PS – I like to use frozen strawberries instead of ice cubes for a little extra flavor

Let’s get one thing out of the way: nowhere in this post will you see any makeup or hair products because when i’m at the beach, my hair is up and my face is clean. I LOVE to play in the sand and swim in the water, the last thing I’m thinking about is my makeup getting sweaty and causing breakouts. (I know, what kind of blogger am I without a good waterproof mascara recommendation).

So now onto my essentials:

I burn super easily, so sunscreen is obviously an essential. I love Neutrogena products because they keep my acne prone skin under control. I’m terrible at remembering, but I try to reapply every hour to prevent a nasty burn. I also love bringing these Kodak disposable waterproof cameras to the beach. They make for some fun action pictures, and they’re a super cheap alternative to bringing a go-pro around.

I know a lot of bloggers/youtubers beach essentials include headphones, but I’d much rather listen to the sound of the waves while reading a book. I’m currently reading The Burn Journals by Brent Runyon (definitely check this book out because it’s SO GOOD). I also need to wear a hat almost the entire time I’m on the beach or else I end up with a scalp burn #FairSkinProblems. My favorite hat right now is my navy and yellow Polo baseball cap.

Every once and a while I like to bring my Nook to the beach to read as well. The screen resembles a newspaper so there is no glare in the sunlight, which is amazing. This is the white Nook HD in a Vera Bradley tablet case (I have no idea what this pattern is called, sorry!)

Besides a the obvious towel, t-shirt and maybe a few snacks this is pretty much all I bring to the beach. What are your favorite things to bring on a beach day? Leave me a comment down below!!

Exploring your city = Comfy but cute enough for a picture next to every cute background you come across (a girl needs options, right?) I went exploring around Philadelphia this past weekend and wanted to share the outfit I chose!

I’m wearing my tried and true dark wash GAP skinny jeans (their jeans are a bit pricey but totally worth the investment), and a plain pink tank top I scored on sale at Old Navy for just 5 bucks! I’m wearing a floral kimono from the brand Lottie & Holly, and some gold slide-on sneakers from Torrid. This style of shoe always looks more fashionable than a sneaker without giving you the discomfort of walking around in sandals all day.

Side note: Last picture is me swinging in a hammock right on the Delaware river front. For the summer there’s a “hammock park” with tons of food trucks, hammocks under twinkling lights, a cute fountains. Right in the middle of the city!

A few months ago I decided to splurge and try out a few M.A.C. products for the first time. In my opinion, everything about M.A.C. is super glamorous (…and unfortunately, comes with a price tag to match). I did a ton of research watching YouTube videos and reading blogger’s reviews of the foundations I purchased, but didn’t find a whole lot of feedback on anything else. So on a whim, I picked out a blush that looked pretty and decided to give it a try and let the world know what I think!

This is the M.A.C Mineralize blush in Petal Power. The Mineralize line is great because it’s very light weight. I’m not someone who likes a super heavy blush (mostly for fear of looking like a clown), so something more sheer is perfect for me! However, the color is definitely buildable if you prefer a heavier blush look. This punchy pink color wears absolutely beautifully and gives off a gentle sheen giving you a luminous cheekbone without coming off too “shiny”. It feels super lightweight and silky on your face, as opposed to a heavier cream blush. All around, this product is fabulous and has definitely earned its place in my daily makeup routine.

I hope you’ve all had a fantastic holiday weekend!

I usually lack patriotic inspiration this time of year and end up wearing denim cutoffs with some time of american flag t-shirt. However, this year I wanted something a little more classic and pretty.

I found this navy blue t-shirt swing dress at Old Navy on sale for just $15! I was worried about it looking like a sack, but it’s tailored just right around the waist to give a super subtle (yet flattering) fit-and-flare type of shape. I paired it with a red beaded statement necklace from Claire’s, my gold Alex and Ani’s along with some simple gold wedges from Target. My American flag scarf is from Forever21 and I proudly carried it around all night, and even wore it as a cape while walking to see the fireworks.

Personally, I find that having a super matte face makes me look “old and dry”. In my opinion, it’s not a cute look. I want my face to look fresh, awake and generally give off a healthy glow. In the summertime, this can be tricky for us oily girls. My skin is normal to combo (depending on the seasons), and I’m going to share the drugstore combo that works miracles for me!

I lovelovelove using the L’oreal True Match Lumi foundation. It gives a medium coverage and a super dewey finish. When set with a powder, it is the perfect amount of shine without looking sweaty. I have acne prone skin, but I usually don’t have too many blemishes at a time. This foundation does a great job of evening out redness, covering acne scars all while giving that luminous glow that it advertises.

Instead of a powder highlight, I have recently been obsessed with the NYX “Born To Glow” Liquid Illuminator. I just swipe some of this super lightweight highlight on the high points of my face and it really adds that shimmery sheen that I love. If you are going for a more dramatic contoured look, use this underneath your favorite powder highlight for some added drama!

Leave a comment telling me your favorite products to use when trying to achieve that beautiful healthy glow!
